Jason Lemkin: I think I noticed a pattern, and I wrote it up a couple of years ago and refreshed it, and then I’ll add a new anecdote. And the best CTO I know in the world is the CEO. Then I was the CTO at another YC company, Standard Treasury, acquired by Silicon Valley Bank. But they got bought by Silicon Valley Bank.

My father passed away in 2009, but his imprint is still palpable there on the lake—nowhere more strongly than on the bookshelves. I was fortunate to be able to spend three weeks at the family lake house in northwestern Michigan in August. My son John and his wife Julie were able to join us for one of our weeks.
