Investing at a breathtaking pace. In many ways, your Quality of Life will simply be awful. In my first start-up as a founder, I had a great CTO and VPE and a pretty darn good VP Ops from the very beginning. Recently, I spent several hours with a new but great friend who has been on a vaguely similar journey to me.

I started at Amazon before they had Amazon Web Services (AWS) so I was lucky enough to see AWS born out of the guts of all of the great operations work done for the amazon.com retail website. You can think of them beginning from very base infrastructural technologies, and in our case we’re betting exclusively on AWS as a cloud vendor.

You can see the growth on the platform side with Azure, Google, and AWS and how much it’s accelerating in AI. Maybe if you have the ex-CTO of Github, but that’s still a super speculative bet. Every VC wants to invest. Salesforce is pushing toward 40% margins, but where will you invest if you can’t hire anyone?
