In the latest installment of SaaStr’s What’s New series – where we sit down with the leaders in SaaS and Cloud for the inside scoop on what’s top of mind and what’s new, SaaStr CEO and Jason Lemkin chats with the CEO of ZoomInfo , Henry Schuck. So, what’s new at ZoomInfo? ” And there can be some truth to that, right? .”
Co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah shared with us how they got there — and the top mistakes they made — just 3 quarters after their IPO. You will fail if you: 1) try to build a suite of products out of the gate, 2) focus solely on SMBs, or 3) have an MBA. But of course, it wasn’t always quite that big!
Growth is still good for them, but they had no net new customers last quarter. HubSpots NRR has fallen to 100%, so to grow 23%, they must add 23% net new customers. You can see the growth on the platform side with Azure, Google, and AWS and how much it’s accelerating in AI. They said they’ll only grow 17% next year.
But if you target SMBs or consumers, PLG is a fantastic way, and you have a very large user base to reach out to as well. If you have a very complicated product–for example you sell AWS or you sell Snowflake–those are infrastructure products. Because that (abandonment) wouldn’t be a solid foundation to acquire more new users.
Is your title CTO? Dharmesh: Yes, CTO. And then I met Brian in grad school and we both have this kind of shared passion for SMB. And whether they start a new company or not, they sort of live as a user at the edge. How many new people signed up for our service or product in the last 90 days? So this is Dharmesh.
