David: Maybe you can talk about that transition, coming from a business like AWS to financial services, which I think was new for you.

Before I joined the venture capital industry many years ago, I was a software developer, and I worked for a startup around the 2000 time period. Retail was mentioned twice, that’s it, and AWS was mentioned 78 times, so it’s probably not surprising that they’re doing this.

Twilio is a cloud communications platform that allows software developers to embed communications into the apps that they’re building. I think of developers as the strategy to get into the market for whatever you’re doing. If it’s a startup adopting Twilio, the developer does it, ship, they’re done.
