Dear SaaStr: Cold Emails Are Not Working for My B2B SaaS Startup. What Am I Doing Wrong? We’ve all been there. The fairly crappy, “my product is so great”, outbound random email to 30–100 folks when you are trying to get your start-up off the ground. That never really works, absent extreme luck: No one has ever heard of you; You don’t yet know how to describe your value proposition compellingly in 1 line properly; and You likely are in a crowded space and there are already other solutions people
Last week, Office Hours hosted Oliver Jay, former CRO at Asana to talk about Avoiding the PLG Trap. More than 900 people registered for the event. The full recording is here or embedded below on the web. Oliver shared some trenchant insights about his experience leading the GTM teams to success. These are three of the lessons that stood out to me espcially managing the transition from product to sales-led growth (PLG -> SLG).

In this new webinar, Alex Salazar and Nate Barbettini will break down the emerging AI architecture that makes action possible, and how it differs from traditional integration approaches.
Many social media platforms are rethinking the way they reward their top creators. A blue tick or badge on social media used to mean you were someone to watch — whether that meant a creator with a growing following or a recognized public figure. But with Meta’s new verification subscription and X Premium , getting the social stamp of approval requires a lot less by way of expertise (if you’re willing to spend a bit of money every month, that is).

Content marketing, social media, events, PR, and marketing through sources-of-influence have consistently produced remarkable results for the companies I’ve run, and yet, most big businesses invest 1/1,000th the effort and dollars in these tactics that they do in digital advertising. Why? Measurability and scalability. Let’s dig into this challenge (and how you can invest better) with this week’s 5-Minute Whiteboard.

So a question for the ages of marketers — is a bigger booth worth it? I had my doubts after 9 years of SaaStr Annuals. I assumed they’d all perform kind of the same. But, I was wrong. The data: Qualified Leads this year ranged from 95 at lowest-yielding of almost 200 sponsors, to 1597 at the top — a wide range But on average, each Gold got 207 Qualified Leads Next up?

Dave Gowans loves that testing allows opinions and preconceptions about conversion to be set aside in favor of numbers and measurability. And what is one of the key conversion factors he uses those numbers to measure? Love. As wild as that sounds, it makes perfect sense. Dave, Founder and Director of Conversion at conversion optimization agency Browser to Buyer , explains that there are two fundamentals underlying the research his agency does for clients: barriers and motivators.

So according to Pitchbook, which collects a massive amount of VC data, VC funds themselves hit a 10+ year low in paper returns this past quarter. In fact, returns plummeted to -20% (!) Yes, that’s as bad as it sounds. And this is a big deal, because VC’s own investors, “Limited Partners” or LPs, are under pressure here as a result.

If one thing is certain about generative AI, it’s that no one knows exactly how it will play out from a product or user experience perspective. Which interfaces will win out? Which tasks will be augmented by large language models (LLMs), and which ones will be completely upended by them? How will creative AI models change our expectations of what we can do with computers?

So times are still challenging for some, but the effects aren’t even. One SaaS leader that’s accelerating again is Shopify. At an almost $7 Billion run-rate — they’re still growing a stunning 31% on a constant-currency basis. And that’s huge acceleration from the post-Covid slowdown, when Shopify went from a crazy Covid-boosted 100% growth, to a low-teens growth rate as it crossed $5 Billion run rate.
Simply starting a website, posting some content, and hoping for the best—that’s far from the best strategy. You need a high-quality SEO. The post Seobility Review appeared first on The Daily Egg.

Everyone is focused on the YouTube Shorts algorithm as the key to growing as a creator on the platform. While it’s an important part of growth, it’s only one piece of the puzzle. Instead of hyper-focusing on what you can’t control (the Algorithm ), focus on what you can – your own results. And how do you find these results?
ClinicSense is a SaaS platform that supports over 7,000 massage therapists who use it for appointment management, payments, scheduling, marketing activities and more. Despite having a relatively low payment failure rate, the company discovered that the failures disrupted the customer experience. This often led to churn as customers decided to cancel or abandon their account, preventing ClinicSense from realizing the full lifetime value (LTV) of its users.
Dear SaaStr: How Do Founder CEOs Typically Transition Out of the Role? It’s a complicated question. Most founders that voluntarily step down tend to want to remain involved at some level, often as “Executive Chairman”. And the VCs and investors often like this. The founding CEO often has a level of fluency with the product, the markets, and the existing customers that no one else will ever have.
I decided to take a quick break from SaaS metrics after doing a matched set of conference presentations in the past two months ( strategic at SaaStr Annual and tactical at SaaS Metrics Palooza ) — and that’s not to mention starting the SaaS Talk podcast with my “metrics brother” Ray Rike. So I thought I’d take a moment, switch gears, and go back to my roots by talking not just about marketing, but product marketing at the upcoming SaaStock conference in Dublin.

Dear SaaStr: What’s The Best Way to Get Traction After We Have A Few Paying Customers? Answer: try everything that just might work, even a little bit. Then: double down on anything that works even a little. That may sound obvious, but what I mean is, most start-ups scale roughly the same way after $1m-$2m in ARR or so, at a given price point. But they often get to $1m ARR different ways, and especially to the first $100k in ARR.
Last month I spoke at SaaStr Annual 2023 on The Strategic Use and Abuse of SaaS Metrics (video here ). When I wrote that presentation I found myself with something of a content blivit on my hands. I had a bunch of strategic things I wanted to say, but darn it, I had a lot of tactical things I wanted to say as well. While the strategic use of metrics is key, poor tactical presentation of metrics can lead to anything from obsfucation to disaster.
