After spending many quarters creating sales forecasts, you should have the process down and deliver precision accuracy. Just kidding. Unfortunately, sales forecasting is not that straightforward. In fact, 60% of forecasted deals don’t close, leading to uncomfortable conversations about budgets and with investors.
Technology plays a critical role in providing customer support at scale. With the right automation underpinning your tech stack, your support team can be empowered to strike the right balance between personalized support and efficiency – something that’s no longer a “nice-to-have” when customer expectations are at an all-time high.

Below are the results of my last four email campaigns where I got an average of 81% open rate and a 33.5% response rate.

A few years ago, when a startup raised a Series A or Series B, founders would bolster the round with venture debt: a term loan and/or a revolving credit line. However, equity dollars are replacing those debt dollars in the last 18 months in the early stage. Meanwhile, venture debt dollars have migrated to later stages. Early stage debt origination and round counts peaked in 2019, while later stage debt has increased quite nearly every year.

So Microsoft announced that LinkedIn, which it bought in 2016, has now crossed a stunning $10 Billion in ARR — and growing 27% year-over-year. That’s pretty incredible. And in the last quarter alone, LinkedIn grew 46% (!). (Actually, I’m a bit confused which parts are growing 27% and which 46%, since it’s split between two divisions — but either way, it’s incredible at $10B in ARR).
A venture dollar’s velocity has never been faster. The time it takes for a dollar to appear in an LP’s pocket, for the LP to wire it to a VC fund, and for the VC fund to invest can be measured in minutes. Then, hold your breath for the pre-emptive round, and you’ll have 3 term sheets before you pass out. I’m kidding of course, but the hyperbole illustrates the velocity of money in Startupland.

Well, at the beginning of 2020, no one had the playbook for that. And so, Mark Rudden and his team had to figure it all out by themselves. Ever since he was hired as the Director of EMEA Sales at BrowserStack , a web and mobile testing platform that lets developers test their websites and mobile applications across browsers, operating systems, and mobile devices, he had to completely rethink how to successfully onboard hundreds of salespeople just as everyone was going remote.
Q: What are the most common challenges of a VP of marketing transitioning into a Chief Revenue officer CRO role? I’ve almost never seen this work. But I see more and more VPMs wanting to be CROs in the past few years. Be wary. Way, way too many senior marketers think CRO is “the next step” for them. It can seem like it and feel like. But here’s what happens: They don’t know how to recruit an A+ sales team.

As a company founder, were there any early hires that almost ruined the company? I’ve had one or two each time. Try to avoid it! In my first start-up, I found the Dream COO. Every successful business relies on reviews. In the past, it was word-of-mouth recommendations from friends or family. If you wanted to go to the movies on the weekend, you’d pick up the local newspaper and read what film critics had to say. In today’s digital world, it’s online reviews that people turn to when needing advice on purchasing decisions.
